Ancient Phoenician DNA Indicates Unexpected Human Migration

Researchers found an unusual genetic sequence during the first known DNA testing of an ancient Phoenician person; as such, the team believes it represents “the earliest European lineage recorded in North Africa.”

The DNA results of an ancient male are causing historians to rethink the flow of human migration.
As The Independent reports, scientists from the University of Otago were recently able to successfully sequence the genetic material of a 2,500-year-old body found in 1994 around the former area of Carthage in Tunisia, North Africa.
Known as the "Young Man of Byrsa,” he is believed to be a member of the Phoenicians, a once-prosperous civilization along the Mediterranean Sea.
