WhatsApp prepares to fight, Android vulnerabilities, Facebook profile update, and more news

On the news roundup this week we see the first shots fired between WhatsApp mobile carriers, a big security breach discovered on Android, plus the latest on Windows 10, Facebook profiles, and Minecraft. Android phones are in danger again. Last April a variability was discovered known as Stagefright, and now the same security company that announced the first bug, has discovered Stagefright 2.0 – which some reports suggest affects an estimated 95% of phones. This new threat is hidden in the metadata of MP3 and MP4 files, meaning you only have to preview a link to be impacted by it. Google has announced a security patch is on the way for Nexus devices, and it is assumed that the other manufacturers are doing the same. That’s right, no more static smiles, instead you can upload a short video and Facebook will turn it into a looping animated GIF to amuse and entertain your friends. Those who still want to use static have some new options too, with the option to schedule the post date and removal of profile images. There are also to be some tweaks to the mobile apps. All of which is great, but there is still no sign of the fabled ‘dislike’ button. These included - Your mobile operator does not support calls through WhatsApp. Try changing mobile operator or connect to Wi-Fi. Boom! There you go mobile carriers – if you don’t support a service that is usurping your business model you had better be ready for a fight, because WhatsApp is going to recommend its users look elsewhere.
