Protests 'turn violent' as ex Israeli security chief does London uni talk

Footage of protesters holding a Palestinian flag and banging on a window in King's College London as Ami Ayalon, Israeli politician and former head of the Shin Bet security service, spoke inside on Tuesday night.

The video shows a cracked window amid reports that police were called to the scene following violence - though no arrests were made.

In a statement the Union of Jewish Students said: "The KCLSU Israel society were hosting an event about peace and were greeted by violence and intimidation. The fact that the police had to be called by the university in order to protect students from fellow students is a disgrace."

The university's 'Action Palestine' group, organisers of the protests, said before the event: "It is unacceptable for us as students to stand idle while our University invests in arms companies and cooperates with Israel in “anti-terrorist” strategies that keep perpetrating violence and deaths."
