NASA Releases Closer Images Of Ceres' Mystery Spots

New photos of Ceres taken by the Dawn spacecraft offer incredible detail of the dwarf planet, but fall short of cracking the mystery surrounding the two bright spots.

Ever since NASA’s Dawn spacecraft first beamed back images of two mysterious bright spots on the surface of Ceres, many have been anxiously awaiting a closer look. 

Well, the good news is that those pictures have arrived.

Taken from a distance of approximately 27 hundred miles from Ceres’ surface, the photos offer unprecedented detail of the dwarf planet’s landscape.

Unfortunately, they fall short of offering an explanation as to what the splotches are or why they’re there.
