Four Israelis killed in terrorist attack on Jerusalem synagogue

At least four Israelis were killed in an attack launched on a synagogue in western Jerusalem during morning prayers on Tuesday.

Two Palestinian assailants stormed into the Kehilat Yaakov Synagogue on Tuesday morning, armed with a gun, knives and axes, according to the New York Times.

Two police officers arrived at the scene and fatally shot the assailants after an intense gunfight. Police have cordoned off the synagogue complex and initiated a search for a possible third suspect.

Eight worshippers were injured in the attack. Four of them are in critical condition.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the attack but also urged Israel to stop its “provocations”. The latest clashes between Israel and Palestine centre on Temple Mount, a holy site for both Jews and Muslims.
