Freak dumbwaiter accident: autopsy reveals food elevator crushed student gymnast Brooke Baures’ head

Brooke Baures, a member of the Winona State University gymnastics team, was found dead at The WingDam Saloon & Grill in Fountain City, Wisconsin earlier this month.
Baures, 21, was an employee at the restaurant and was working on the second floor of at the time of the accident.
An autopsy report revealed that Baures’ head was fatally crushed after she was caught and trapped inside the cab.
As the food elevator descended, Baures’ brainstem and cerebellum were fatally injured.
The brain damage immediately killed the waitress.
An employee saw the dumbwaiter open once it got to the first floor, thinking it was just dirty dishes.
Baures’ fellow co-worker was in shock when they saw her petite lifeless body trapped inside the cab.
The dumbwaiter has since been permanently removed and Federal and state regulations have launched separate investigations.
