Argentina chopper crash: French athletes die as helicopters collide while filming reality TV show

Two helicopters carrying the cast and crew of a French reality TV show collided in northwestern Argentina on Monday, killing all ten people on board, including three French sports personalities.
The dead included long-distance yachtswoman Florence Arthaud, Olympic swimmer Camille Muffat and Olympic boxer Alexis Vastine.
The fatal crash took place in La Rioja Province in Argentina’s north-west Monday afternoon.
Eight French nationals taking part in a survival television show boarded two helicopters in the rugged mountains Monday afternoon. Each chopper reportedly carried five people.
Local media reported that the helicopters were about five metres apart when they crashed into each other shortly after takeoff.
There was an explosion following the collision. No one, including the two Argentine pilots, survived the crash.
According to AFP, one of the helicopters belonged to the La Rioja provincial government, while another the police force of neighbouring Santiago del Estero province.
Argentine authorities said the cause of the crash was unknown as the weather conditions were good at the time of the crash.
