Shun Takahata is a high school teen bored with his humdrum life. But one day, a mysterious Daruma doll (a traditional Japanese votive figure that represents Bodhidharma, the first Zen patriarch) suddenly appears in class and announces the beginning of a game that will put their lives on the line. After the Daruma doll comes a beckoning cat, a Kokeshi doll, a polar bear, and a Matryoshka doll... One after another, these strange manifestations of toys introduce games that the students must succeed in winning. If they don't, they die an instant death. Is this really a game? If so, what is it for? Who are "God's children"? And what awaits Shun and his classmates who survive these games?
