No doubt, free Wi-Fi is a great thing, but is it worth giving up your first born to get it?

No doubt, free Wi-Fi is a great thing, but is it worth giving up your first born to get it?

That’s exactly what six people in London did as a result of not carefully reading the usage terms and conditions before accepting them.

The Wi-Fi provider was actually F-Secure, a Finnish research group.

They were conducting an experiment for the purpose of gaining insights into how people approach public connectivity opportunities and what security issues may result.

In the name of discovery, a Wi-Fi hotspot was set up in the English capital. To gain access to it individuals had to approve a list of specifications and stipulations.

Among them was a ‘Herod Clause’ permitting the researchers to take possession of the first child born to the users. The time limit of the agreement was listed as “the duration of eternity.”

After 6 people clicked accept the group took down the page.

The researchers say that they’ve since decided they’re no longer interested in taking the newborns.

They do advise that people carefully consider using unknown Wi-Fi sources, as criminals can use the technology to gather the personal information of those logged on.
