Netherlands: 3 dead after monster truck stunt show goes wrong

Three people including a child have reportedly been killed in the Netherlands during a stunt show.

A giant pick up truck span out of control in the Dutch city of Haaksbergen.

The local mayor said at least a dozen people were injured, five of them seriously.

An amateur video of the incident posted on a social media website showed the so-called monster truck revving hard and then driving over six cars, before suddenly heading towards a crowd of spectators.

Screaming, some managed to run out of the way, but others had no time to escape.

One of the injured people said:
“They need to find a bigger location, outside the town centre where there is more space. It could have driven straight into the supermarket or the bank.”

Local helicopter ambulances flew in from around the region, including from neighbouring Germany.

One of the organisers speculated that the truck’s accelerator became stuck or its brakes failed.

The driver has been arrested by police.
