Police officer who shot Missouri teen identified

Authorities in Ferguson, Missouri have identified the officer who shot Michael Brown, the unarmed black teen killed after an altercation with police.

He's been identified as Darren Wilson, a six year veteran of the Ferguson Police Department.

Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson says the officer has had no disciplinary action taken against him during his time on the force.

Police released the officer's identity at a news conference Friday morning after nearly a week of angry confrontations between protesters and riot gear-clad local police.

There was a marked shift to a calmer tone on Thursday after local forces were replaced by a small number of state police, led by a newly appointed black captain who mingled with the crowd.
