Netherlands beats Mexico 2-1 at World Cup

Fortaleza (Brazil), Jun 29 (EFE).- Scoring two goals in just six minutes was Holland's ticket to the World Cup quarterfinals in its 2-1 win on Sunday over Mexico, which had gotten on the board in the 48th minute with a nice mid-distance tally by Giovani dos Santos.



Holland, however, was able to qualify for the quarterfinals in 88th minute, when Wesley Sneijder fired in a powerful long-range shot to tie up the match.



And just when it seemed that the contest would go into extra time, a penalty committed by Rafael Marquez on Arjen Robben was converted into a goal by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in the 94th minute.



Holland will face off in the quarterfinals against the winner of the match between Costa Rica and Greece, which will be played later on Sunday afternoon.



Mexico will now go home with its head held high, even though it seemed as if the green-clad squad had the game in its pocket up to the 88th minute.
