The Secret Underworld (Movile sulphur cave life, Romania) [National Geographic Adventures]

A sulphur-based extremophile ecosystem (including shrimp, snails, leeches, spiders and water scorpions that never see the light of day) that retreated there back when the Mediterranean turned to desert, nourished by underground volcanic springs and chemosynthetic microbes that predate photosynthetic life. Voiced by Paul McGann. PBS' "Mysterious Life of Caves" is similar but more picturesque, covering Lechuguilla, Cueva de Villa Luz and Lower Kane Caves; worth a look.

"Underneath the Romanian countryside a cave that had been sealed for millions of years is unearthed and new species of life found, along with underground lakes and strange formations never seen by human eyes. Movile Cave has a history that is a biological enigma and is one of the greatest scientific discoveries of the 20th century."

They also visit the caves at Frasassi Gorge, Italy.
