Japan lifts evacuation order of district in nuclear no-go zone

More than three years after Japan's nuclear disaster at Fukushima, a homecoming long overdue.

Residents of Tamura city near the wrecked nuclear plant were finally allowed to return home on Tuesday.

The area had been off limits for most of the district's 360 registered residents since March of 2011.

That's when the government ordered evacuations after a devastating earthquake and tsunami triggered a triple meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

Tamura city, nestled among rice paddies and rolling hills, became a ghost town.

Now, police patrol its neighborhoods but homesick evacuees have mixed feelings about coming back.

(SOUNDBITE)(Japanese) UNIDENTIFIED RESIDENT OF TAMURA SAYING:

"Yes, I am a bit worried. But it's my land, my house, so I am feel safer and more at home here."

Japanese media says the evacuation order was lifted for this area because the radiation decontamination here was faster than in other places

Still, you
