Hello everyone, today we will focus on expressions for greetings. Some are very formal, others you will only hear on the streets and others still will only be used between friends.
Hello, how are you? The most common greeting, can be used in almost any circumstances. Can be followed with some small talk if appropriate. A good response: "Good, and you?"
Hey, what have you been up to/How's life? Used for friends/acquaintances you haven't seen in a long time. A way to catch up.
Hey, What's up? Sometimes abbreviated to just "'sup". Very informal/slang, mostly used by youngsters and on the streets.
Pleased to meet you - Very formal and polite. Best used for business meeting or seeing your partner's family as it will make you appear very courteous.
Good morning/afternoon/evening - Formal greeting that changes depending on the time of the day. Could be very well used with colleagues for example.
