3 tonnes of meth seized in southern China

Police seized three tonnes of crystal meth and made 182 arrests in a recent crackdown on drugs in a village in southern China's Guangdong province, state media reported on Friday (January 3).

The operation involved 109 raids within two months by more than 3,000 personnel from the provincial paramilitary forces and police in four cities, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

One of the biggest raids was on Boshe village of Lufeng city, which is notoriously known for drug production and has been providing one third of cyrstal meth consumed in China over the past three years, it added.

A total of 182 suspects from 18 drug production and trafficking rings were arrested during the raids on the village and another 23 tonnes of raw materials for drug production were also recovered, Xinhua said.
