Billboard Meant to Feature Mandela Showcases Morgan Freeman Instead

A man’s good deed got derailed when a picture of Morgan Freeman was used instead of an image of Nelson Mandela on a tribute billboard.

With only the best intentions, a man in India erected a billboard to honor Nelson Mandela.

His good deed got derailed when a picture of Morgan Freeman was used instead of an image of the recently departed anti-apartheid legend. In addition to Freeman, the tribute also has photos of Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, and Mother Theresa.

Alongside them are the moving words, “We should be proud that we were part of an era when they lived.”

The cloth merchant who initiated the billboard said that it was the project’s designer that confused Freeman and Mandela.

Many say the two do bear a remarkable resemblance. Further confusion no doubt stems from Freeman’s portrayal of the man in the 2009 film Invictus.

Further, the designer is hardly the only one to have made the error. Twitter is overflowing with evidence that many people have a tough time distinguishing one man from the other.

The billboard’s sponsor said he was unaware of the error before the picture went up.

He assured the public that the mistake would be corrected and the new version would feature a picture of the real Nelson Mandela.
