French police name Paris shootings suspect

French police have named the man they have arrested for the recent Paris shootings as Abdelhakin Dekhar.

They say they detained him after a tip-off, removing him a vehicle in a car park in Bois-Colombes, north-west of Paris.

France’s Interior Minister Manuel Valls revealed DNA samples allegedly link him to one of the crime scenes.

“Everything seems to show that he tried to commit suicide. However, he did not kill himself, which is very important so that we can find out all the facts, and the truth about his motives which we obviously don’t know yet. To understand why he wanted to attack the newsroom of BFM and Liberation newspaper, and fire on Societe Generale.”

Last Friday a massive manhunt was launched after an armed man entered a Paris TV station.

On Monday the same individual is thought to have opened fire, seriously injuring one person in offices of the newspaper Liberation.

The gunman then fired shots outside a bank before hijacking a car.
