Models Wear Fashions Made of Chocolate

Recently in London, the Salon du Chocolat fair used local chocolate makers and fashion designers to put on a fashion show where models tried not to melt on the runway.

If your passions are chocolate and fashion, you will love the Salon du Chocolat fair, which is touring 23 cities worldwide and has been allowing attendees to try and buy gourmet and handcrafted chocolates for 19 years. Most recently in London, the fair used local chocolate makers and fashion designers to put on a fashion show where models tried not to melt on the runway.

The designs made significantly, or completely, of white, dark, and milk chocolate included all different styles of dresses, a swimsuit, and accessories like bags and headpieces.

In addition to a dress with square panels and a matching round handbag inspired by Audrey Hepburn, another showstopper was the "Eternal Diamond" dress designed by 23-year-old Lauren Smith for Lindt chocolate. Five people helped the model get into this A-line dress weighing 40 pounds and decorated with orange and chili pieces.

It took 24 hours to hand paint chocolate onto the heavy-duty canvas material used for the base of the dress. The process was said to involve “a lot of melting, breaking and rebuilding.”

Smith added, “The thing that I was really worried about was sewing through chocolate and fabric, and that actually came out really well.”
