There are certain types of liquors that have a tremendous value and unfortunately that makes them a target for theft as well. Recently, some unknown suspects reportedly swiped about 65 cases of 20-year-old Pappy Van Winkle.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff, the liquor was swiped from Buffalo Trace Distillery’s Frankfort business. Police currently believe that the theft was a conspiracy, basically a type of inside job.

The two decade old bourbon typically sells for approximately $130 a bottle. However due to the rarity and taste, once the bottles are advertised on the web, on sites like eBay, the liquor can cost upwards of $300.
In total, the monetary loss for the company resulting from the crime is estimated to be about $26,000. The reason why cops believe employees were involved is because the cases were taken over the course of several months.

The booze boxes were swiped from the middle of various pallets so inventory takers wouldn’t immediately notice they were missing. (2,4,1) Detectives are currently investigating but no suspects have yet be named.

Sheriff Pat Melton spoke of the theft and company environment behind the bourbon stating “Their internal controls are pretty good and that’s why it’s been very, very rare for it to happen.”
