Deaf Woman Adopts Deaf Dog

A deaf woman adopts a deaf dog.

Physical disabilities can help strengthen the bond between pets and humans.

A couple in New York state, named Steven and Jessica have adopted a pit-bull named Maggie.

The dog was rescued after she was found chained in a backyard in North Carolina. She was malnourished and in need of veterinary care.

Maggie wasn’t even given a name by her previous owner because she is deaf. But this is where the story takes a heartwarming twist. Her new master, Jessica is also deaf.

She had heard about Maggie through a friend and immediately began looking into whether they could provide her a suitable home. Once establishing a deaf owner and dog could be a good fit, Steven and Jessica initiated the adoption process.

The pooch is being taught basic commands by sign language. Maggie is now healthy and happy in her new house.

Not all dogs are given a second chance at life. An estimated 3 to 4 million are euthanized in US animal shelters every year.
