J. Teal Band – Cooks 1977 (USA, Hard/Funk/Southern Rock)

J. Teal Band" were formed in 1974. Originally called the Jonathan Teal Band, they were named after the legendary North Carolina gold miner. Previously, Joey Cash, one of the guitarists, played with Paul Riddle (drummer of the Marshall Tucker Band) in a band called Stanley And The Star Dusters. In addition, Doug Cecil (drums) was also a good friend of Riddle and bought his Gretch drum set, which was used in the old days in the Marshall Tucker Band. Billy Hardy (guitar) and Joey Cash also previously played together in a band called Magic Weed. According to legend, Jimi Hendrix played there, but later, when Pete was no longer there. Billy and Joe graduated from the University of South Georgia in 1974 and moved back to Spartanburg, South Carolina with Doug Cecil and his friend Randy Johnson (bass and vocals). In 1975 and 1976 they played everything from Al Green to Aerosmith (funky southern rock, boogie-blues, acid rock). Having decided on the style, the group recorded the album "Cooks" in 1977 on "Mother Cleo Productions". Hayne Davis was the recording engineer as well as the producer who owned the small recording company. He has worked with Billy Joe Royal, Percy Sledge And Sledge Hammer, Toby King, Sugar And Spice, The Classic Four, High Cotton. Barry Keel did the final remastering of the material. But, unfortunately, their high hopes for the future did not materialize, and after a year or so they disbanded. In the 90s they played a little in local clubs.
