In Jammu & Kashmir, 20,000 employees of the Power Development Department have gone on an indefinite strike. Massive power problem amid severe cold waves has caused trouble for people in J&K. The Army has been called in to assist in restoring power. In J&K, the employees are protesting against the government move to merge the J&K Power Development Department into the Power Grid Corporation of India.
