Former Union minister Napoleon joins BJP, says he has Alagiri's blessings

CHENNAI: Former Union minister and actor Napoleon, who joined the BJP on Sunday after resigning from the DMK, said there is no democracy in the Dravidian party. He also said he has joined the BJP with the blessings of former Union minister and DMK chief M Karunanidhi's son M K Alagiri.

"I have been with the DMK and I was not given an opportunity to discharge my duties. There is no democracy in the DMK. I wanted to serve people. They gave me ministership, but they tied my hands. I was not able to do anything, and I was very frustrated," Napoleon said after joining the national party in the presence BJP president Amit Shah here.

Napoleon quit the DMK on Saturday after he was sidelined by the party for supporting Alagiri. Alagiri was sacked from the party in March this year for anti-party activities.

"Since I was being sidelined, I joined the BJP. Alagiri was also upset about the party sidelining me. I joined the BJP with Alagiri's blessing," he said.
