Footage captures cars driving through flooded streets of McAllen, Texas

Heavy rain caused flooding throughout McAllen, Texas, on June 21, according to media reports.

In the video, cars are seen driving through the flooded streets of McAllen. At one point, a large truck passes by towing a fire engine.

The people traveling inside the car were trying to help a homeless minor named Amber get to a shelter in Brownsville, but the flooding forced them to change their plans.

“Amber is homeless, pregnant and a victim of domestic violence,” the filmer said. “I’m in McAllen, Texas, documenting her story and accompanying her on her perilous journey avoiding arrest while seeking shelter since she was abandoned by her parents one month ago.”

“In spite of being documented, bilingual citizens with orderly legal standings (like Amber), many children, especially girls in crisis, are still denied protection and assistance by the very agencies put in place to help,” the filmer continued.

“Amber’s friend, Alondra, and I are documenting her struggle for dignity and safety by live tweeting her status as it changes on my Twitter feed @stephmklein. You can follow her journey via the hashtag #helpingamber,” the filmer said.
