Uber drivers set to protest for $15 minimum wage

Uber drivers are set to join striking a cast of airport employees, fast food workers and home care aides in San Francisco Tuesday. According to Fight for 15, the group organizing the effort, drivers will be holding up signs that say "your Uber driver is striking." Uber drivers are considered contractors, not employees, meaning they aren't entitled to overtime pay or sick leave. The ride-hailing company has said in the past that drivers make an average of $19 per hour, but that's before things like gas, car repairs and insurance are factored in. Fare cuts have also made it harder for drivers to make a living.
