Florida cop arrested for treating handcuffed woman like a punching bag

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA — A Jacksonville cop has been charged with battery and fired for repeatedly punching a handcuffed woman in custody, authorities said.
Officer Akinyemi Borisade, 26, was arrested on a battery charge, Undersheriff Pat Ivey said in a news conference last Thursday.
Footage released by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office shows Borisade striking 31-year old Mayra Martinez while she was in handcuffs and being checked into the Duval County Jail.
Borisade was filmed beating on Martinez even before they got to the jail. Last Wednesday, Borisade arrested Martinez at a local bar for trespassing and resisting arrest.
According to her police report, Martinez was drunk and belligerent when two cops, including Borisade, arrived at the bar to escort her from the property after she quit on her first day of work.
According to WJXT, she resisted efforts to handcuff her and tried to kick and bite officers.
Dashcam video shows Borisade hitting Martinez several times while she is handcuffed on the ground. Both Borisade and another officer are holding her down while Borisade punches her over and over.
Another video released by authorities shows Martinez waiting to be booked into jail. She can be seen in the video kicking Borisade twice in the leg.
Borisade responds by punching Martinez four times extremely hard in her midsection. Martinez then slumps down to the ground.
Ivey said that since Borisade is a probationary officer, he can't appeal his firing, but he can request a name-clearing hearing with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
