USA – Migrant Children Held in Detention Centers

In August of 2015 , more than 30,000 unaccompanied minors were detained in their attempt to cross the Mexican border into the United States. They did not expect the hardships they would encounter on their journey and after they arrived. And they certainly didn’t expect to be held in detention centers, many of which have been criticized for human rights violations. In effect, these places are jails where they are often subjected to abuse from the guards. The children don’t understand why they are there. These centers once held people for a maximum of 72 hours, but now many are locked up for months. Bianca Perez reports from Washington DC for teleSUR
