Longtime NBC reporter, Tom Brokaw, will be ringing in 2015 with some positive news. The 74-year-old recently sent a letter to his colleagues and friends at the network, informing them of his improved condition following a cancer diagnosis.

He explains “A year ago my future was more uncertain than I cared to acknowledge but now I face the New Year with very encouraging news. The cancer is in remission and I will shortly go on a drug maintenance regimen to keep it there.”

In the summer of 2013, Brokaw was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, which results in the gathering of cancer cells in the bone marrow. They in turn, overcrowd blood cells that are healthy.

In his note, Brokaw brought up his past, specifically when he was a Presidential delegate to the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. He mentioned his interaction with the veterans who returned for the anniversary and it seems those encounters continue to stand out in his mind and help him with his own recovery.

Brokaw pointed out how lucky we are to have the lives we do now because of that generation. He also acknowledged the hospitals he visited and doctors he consulted with while fighting the disease.
