ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
STORY: Charlize Theron hit the carpet in New York on Thursday (December 8) for the world premiere of her new film "Young Adult."
The film stars Theron, as Mavis, a successful writer who returns to her small hometown to try and win the heart of her happily married high school sweetheart. Finding it hard to acclimatize back to small town living, her character forms a bond with a former classmate, who is also trying to relive high school.
Mavis' unapologetic and sometimes funny behavior has the film straddling the line between black comedy and drama. Director Jason Reitman said a description of anti-romantic comedy, love story and horror film as all pretty accurate.
'Young Adult" is the latest in a string of movies released this year that feature female's in unconventional roles. Writer Diablo Cody, best known for her award-winning film "Juno," is excited about the shift in Hollywood.
Theron avoid calling the change a trend, saying storytelling is simply evolving.
"Young Adult" hits U.S. theaters on December 16.
